HEP is the Hotels, Utilities and Sustainability Management Portal, developed out of more than two decades of energy and sustainability auditing across large hotel properties in more than 40 countries.
Why an audit practice built a portal.
Auditing hotels for two decades produces a particular frustration. You spend weeks establishing what a property actually consumes, where it goes and what could be done about it — and then you hand over a report. Twelve months later somebody asks whether the recommendations worked, and nobody can answer, because the data needed to answer it was never collected in a consistent form.
HEP exists to close that gap. It is built around the same questions an auditor asks: what did this property use, what should it have used given the weather and the occupancy, where inside the building did it go, and did the thing we changed make any difference?
That is why the modules look the way they do. Regression analysis is there because a raw year-on-year comparison never survived scrutiny. Unlimited submetering is there because the answer to “why did consumption move” is almost never visible at the main incomer. The knowledgebase and the Energy Audit Centre are there because a group’s technical knowledge should not live in individual engineers’ inboxes.
What has changed since is what hotel groups are being asked for. Utility cost is still there, but it now sits alongside carbon reporting, waste tracking, science-based reduction targets, ESG surveys and a widening set of regulatory obligations. Those are not a different problem — they are the same measurements, asked for in a different shape. A group that knows what each property consumed, why, and what it did about it already has most of what a sustainability report needs.
So sustainability and operational efficiency carry equal weight in the platform, and the sustainability side is where most of the current development effort goes. Carbon accounting now spans Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3, with further ESG capability in development behind it — approached the same way as everything else here, by deriving it from data the properties are already submitting rather than adding another collection exercise.
HEP is a SaaS platform, so any property with a browser can use it — including the ones still working from a clipboard and a spreadsheet, which is most of them.
Engineers, not a ticket queue.
Support from people who audit
The team behind the portal are the people who conduct the audits. A question about a chiller sequence gets an answer about chiller sequences.
Onboarding and training included
Property-level training so the data keeps arriving after go-live. A portal nobody uploads to is worth nothing.
Your data stays yours
