Efficiency measures & knowledgebase

Analytics is incomplete without the measures behind it.

Hospitality groups struggle to align properties on efficiency and sustainability projects, and to track what was actually done. HEP holds the catalogue, the action plans and the audit repository in the same place as the data.

Dynamic knowledgebase & technical library

An expandable technical library covering all key categories, each developed through subcategories and their related efficiency actions.

  • Browse and adopt — a property picks any valid action and adds it to its own action plan.
  • Contribute back — users add new measures to the catalogue, shared with every other property on the portal.
  • Covers infrastructure and operations, not just plant.

Categories

Six categories, each with its own action groups.

HVAC

Recognised as the largest energy end use in hotel properties globally. Cooling, heating and fresh air, and the mechanical equipment behind them.

Steam & hot water systems

Domestic hot water, space heating and the steam used in laundry operations — a crucial part of overall hotel energy management.

Lighting

A core part of hotel design, and a substantial opportunity in both retrofit and controls across front and back of house.

Building envelope

Glazed surfaces, walls, roofs and every access between conditioned and outdoor space — central to HVAC performance and guest comfort.

Energy supply & management

From utilities contract negotiation to demand management, renewable generation and CHP.

Operation

Employee and guest engagement, communications and the property's wider sustainability development programmes.

How a measure travels

Browse, adopt, contribute.

This is what turns a static library into something that improves as the group uses it.

1

Browse

A property opens the catalogue and works through the categories and action groups relevant to its systems.

2

Adopt

Any valid action is added to that property's action plan, where it becomes a tracked item in the EMA Centre.

3

Contribute

A property that finds something new adds it to the catalogue, and it is shared with every other user and property on the portal.

Projects management

Efficiency Measures Action Centre

HEP's project management module, giving full visibility across each hotel and across regional and group management. It clearly indicates who is doing what.

  • Key parameters recorded against every efficiency and sustainability measure.
  • Comments and files attached to each action, so the context stays with the project.
  • Tracked across properties, regions and categories from a regional or group perspective.

Document management

Energy Audit Centre

A repository module holding energy audit report files together with the individual asset lists that go with them — giving full access to these documents across a hotel and across the group.

  • Audit reports stored per property, not on somebody's laptop.
  • Asset lists held alongside the audits that describe them.
  • Group-wide access, so a new engineer inherits the history with the job.

Closing the loop

The measure is recorded here. Whether it worked is measured next door.

Data analytics is incomplete if it isn't correlated to implemented efficiency measures. The action plan lives in the EMA Centre; the regression model that tests it lives in analytics — built on the same dataset, so there is no reconciliation step between them.

Questions

About measures and projects

Can we add our own measures?

Yes. Users can add new efficiency measures to the catalogue, and those entries are then shared with the other users and properties on the portal — so a fix found in one hotel becomes available to the whole group.

Who can see the action plan?

The property, its region and group management. From a regional or group perspective, measures can be tracked across individual properties, regions and categories, with key parameters, comments and files attached to each.

Where do audit reports live?

In the Energy Audit Centre, stored per property with the associated asset lists and accessible across the group.
