EEG successfully completed and commissioned an Energy Efficiency Project within the framework of an ESPC (Energy Saving Performance Contracting) arrangement in partnership with Dunes Center/Radisson Blu Hotel Beirut.
This initiative was instigated by ICU(Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria (ICU) ) through the EU co-funded REESTART (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Energy Transition) project in Lebanon. It forms part of a broader program dedicated to "Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in support of Lebanon's clean energy transition."
The Radisson Blu Hotel commenced operations in April 2018, situated atop the Dunes Center which was built in the early 2000s, within Beirut's Verdun neighborhood. Both properties offer a holistic range of services, encompassing accommodations, a modern banquet hall, shopping, entertainment, dining, and wellness amenities. The center spans a total area of 17,160 m2, boasting five basement levels, including parking, while the five-floor Radisson Blu Hotel covers 9,745 m2, comprising 127 rooms and 9 suites.
The ESPC project kicked off with an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit in 2022, serving as the foundation for identifying potential Energy Efficiency Measures. Subsequently, in collaboration with Dunes Center management and the REESTART team, EEG narrowed the focus to three measures to be implemented under the ESPC model. These measures include the installation of a new BMS system incorporating energy management schemes, VFDs on pumps, and chilled water balancing.
Projections indicate annual savings exceeding 11.4%, with EEG committed to guaranteeing these savings through the ESPC. Monthly Measurement and Verification, aligned with the IPMVP Option C method, are being conducted to ensure performance and verify achieved efficiencies.
