EEG concludes Energy Audit for Jumeirah Carlton Tower London

EEG is proud to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive energy and water audit for the prestigious Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London. This significantly advances the hotel's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

The Jumeirah Carlton Tower, a landmark located on Cadogan Place, Knightsbridge, boasts a rich heritage dating back to its opening in January 1961 as The Carlton Tower. Following extensive renovations between 2019 and 2021, it reopened in July 2021 as a beacon of luxury. The hotel features 186  guest rooms, including 88 suites, and a sprawling total built-up area of approximately 18,450 m². Guests can indulge in four distinctive F&B outlets, a serene spa with five treatment rooms, and a 20-meter indoor pool that is bathed in natural light. The property also offers extensive event spaces, including a grand ballroom and versatile meeting rooms.

Beyond its luxurious offerings, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower has already demonstrated a strong, proactive commitment to environmental stewardship through various existing initiatives:

  • Reduced Energy and Water Consumption: The property has actively pursued reductions, particularly during its latest renovations, implementing a comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) with full LED lighting and extensive dimming panels, a Guest Room Management System (GRMS), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on most fans and pumps, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures throughout.
  • Comprehensive Waste Management Plan: A robust plan is in place to minimize waste and reduce pollution.
  • Green Certifications: The hotel has earned the Green Key eco-label, recognizing their commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.
  • Emphasis on Seasonality and Sustainable Sourcing in Dining: Recent menu updates, such as the new afternoon tea, highlight locally and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, celebrating seasonality and aiming to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Elimination of Single-Use Plastics: Jumeirah Group, including Jumeirah Carlton Tower, is actively working to eliminate single-use plastics across its operations, with a commitment to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiatives to achieve this by 2025. This includes replacing plastic amenities and food packaging with bio-alternatives.
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Transportation & Charging Infrastructure: Jumeirah offers EV transportation for guests and has invested in EV charging infrastructure across its global portfolio, promoting sustainable travel.
  • Partnerships for Wellbeing with Sustainable Focus: The hotel is introducing collaborations, such as with GROUND Wellbeing, which uses 100% vegan, animal cruelty-free products made with natural ingredients, free from harmful chemicals.
  • Food Waste Reduction: Jumeirah Carlton Tower is implementing AI-powered food waste management systems to reduce waste at both production and guest levels.

EEG's energy and water audit, initiated in January 2025 and completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025, built upon these existing efforts. The thorough analysis of the hotel's energy and water consumption identified additional key areas for improvement, encompassing all aspects of the property, from its extensive guest facilities to its operational infrastructure.

As a result of this in-depth audit, EEG identified and proposed a total of 18 new Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs). The implementation of these measures is projected to yield significant additional savings for the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, with an aggregate reduction of more than 16% on electricity consumption and over 11% on gas consumption. These projected savings not only represent a substantial financial benefit for the hotel but also significantly contribute to its environmental stewardship by further reducing its carbon footprint and conserving valuable resources.
