EEG completes Energy Audit for Pullman Dakar Teranga, Senegal

Pullman Dakar Teranga, an iconic coastal landmark and a leading five-star hotel in Senegal's capital, has successfully completed a comprehensive ASHRAE Level 2 Energy and Water Audit. This initiative establishes a strategic roadmap designed to enhance the property's operational efficiency and support its commitment to sustainable luxury.

The Teranga Spirit: Modernity Meets Coastal Heritage

The Pullman Dakar Teranga is prominently located in the heart of Dakar, offering a blend of historical significance and modern sophistication.

Originally constructed in 1973, the hotel underwent a comprehensive, full renovation between 2016 and 2017, transforming it into a contemporary destination. The 14-story building features 247 guest rooms and suites within a total built-up area of approximately 59,500 m2. Key amenities include redesigned restaurants and lounges, state-of-the-art meeting, and a contemporary spa and fitness center. A central feature is the infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the exclusive Teranga Beach Club, offering guests a seamless coastal experience.

Commitment to Sustainable Hospitality in West Africa

The Pullman Dakar Teranga adheres to the highest operational standards, aligning with Accor's ambitious Sustainable Hospitality program to manage its environmental impact effectively:

  • Accor's Global Initiative: The hotel ensures its operations reflect Accor’s comprehensive commitment to positive hospitality and resource efficiency.
  • Eco-Certification: The property is certified with the Green Key (FEE) eco-label, confirming its dedication to verified environmental management and sustainable operations.
  • Infrastructure & Practices: The 2017 renovation included key infrastructure updates designed for modern consumption standards, such as a water-cooled chiller with remote dry coolers and a heat recovery system, heat pumps for hot water production, 100% LED lighting, and VFDs on key motors and fans. These are complemented by ongoing efforts in structured waste segregation and the use of eco-friendly consumables.
  • Guest Experience: Sustainable practices are integrated into the guest experience, contributing to responsible tourism in the region.

Audit Conclusion: 16 Measures Deliver Significant Savings

To ensure optimal performance across its extensive and newly renovated facilities, Pullman Dakar Teranga partnered with EEG to conduct a detailed Level 2 Energy and Water Audit.

The project was successfully completed in Q3 of 2025. The final assessment delivered to the hotel management outlined an actionable strategy consisting of 16 distinct Energy and Water Efficiency Measures (EEMs & WEMs). These measures are focused on optimizing the hotel’s HVAC system, lighting, and other key technical operations.

If fully executed, this efficiency roadmap has the potential to deliver substantial utilities cost savings, estimated to top 18% of the hotel’s total consumption. These findings empower Pullman Dakar Teranga to further reduce its operating expenditures and environmental footprint, solidifying its position as a sustainable luxury leader in West Africa.
