EEG conducts an Energy Audit to Pullman Cape Town City Centre

Situated in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, the Pullman Cape Town City Centre stands as a beacon of modern five-star hospitality. The hotel occupies the architecturally distinct Triangle House, a recognized skyscraper that seamlessly integrates hotel operations with luxury residential units. The hotel offers 214 guest rooms across floors 3 to 11, complemented by diverse amenities including multiple dining outlets, an outdoor heated pool, a gym, and versatile function spaces—all within a total conditioned area of approximately 16,068 m².

A Commitment to Sustainability

Pullman Cape Town City Centre is committed to a proactive approach to environmental responsibility. The hotel's efforts are guided by a dedicated Sustainability Committee and align with Accor's global sustainability program. These initiatives have earned the hotel the  Green Key certification, a testament to its operational excellence and commitment to the environment. Key initiatives include:

  • Energy Conservation: The hotel has implemented energy-efficient lighting and a Guest Room Management system that automatically switches off electricity in vacant rooms, significantly reducing consumption.
  • Water Efficiency: Water-saving measures are a priority, with low-flow showerheads, dual-flush toilets, and a daily leak-checking protocol in place to minimize water usage.
  • Waste Management: The hotel is actively working to eliminate single-use plastics and has partnered with a waste management company to meticulously sort and recycle waste, leading to high diversion rates from landfills.
  • Sustainable Practices: The hotel educates its staff through comprehensive training and encourages guests to participate in eco-friendly practices, such as opting to reduce laundry loads.

Energy Audit: Driving Measurable Impact

Further solidifying its dedication to sustainability, the Pullman Cape Town City Centre engaged EEG – Energy Efficiency Group to conduct a detailed ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit that was completed by the second quarter of 2025. The audit aimed to identify concrete opportunities to reduce the hotel's environmental footprint and operational costs.

The final report presented to the hotel management outlined a clear roadmap of 11 distinct energy efficiency measures (EEMs). If fully implemented, these measures have the potential to deliver substantial combined savings of up to 25% on electricity and 22% on water. These findings provide a strategic plan for the hotel to continue its journey toward greater sustainability, enhancing its commitment to both the environment and its  guest experience.
