EEG Completes Energy Audit for Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia, RDC

Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia, a five-star institution with deep roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo's second-largest city, has successfully completed a comprehensive ASHRAE Level 2 Energy and Water Audit. This initiative underscores the hotel's dedication to operational efficiency while preserving the legacy of this iconic property.

An Iconic Institution on the Shores of Lake Kipopo

The Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia is far more than a luxury hotel; it is a historical landmark in Central Africa.

The property, originally opened in 1974 as the Grand Karavia, was a cornerstone of the region’s development. Situated in an idyllic setting on the south bank of Lake Kipopo (Lake Tshombe), the hotel is nestled within a lush, expansive garden complex, offering a tranquil urban oasis. With 197 rooms and suites across six floors, the hotel remains a vital economic and social hub, serving as the premier meeting place for international business travelers and hosting major events.

Sustaining a Cultural Heritage

As a recognized historical and economic anchor in the Haut-Katanga province, the Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia is committed to sustainable excellence:

  • Accor's Sustainable Hospitality: The hotel aligns with Accor’s broader commitment to positive hospitality, ensuring its operations reflect the highest global standards for resource management.
  • Eco-Certification: The property is a multi-year recipient of the Green Globe Certification, a recognition that specifically measures the hotel's positive impact on the environment, local community, and cultural heritage.
  • Circular Practices: Existing initiatives include the use of eco-friendly toiletries, a structured recycling program, and a focus on operational efficiencies to manage its energy footprint effectively.

L2  Energy and Water Audit Delivers Road Map for Efficiency

To optimize its operating future and maximize resource performance, Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia partnered with EEG to conduct a detailed Level 2 Energy and Water Audit.

The project was successfully completed in Q3 of 2025. The final assessment delivered to the hotel management outlined an actionable strategy consisting of 24 distinct Energy and Water Efficiency Measures (EEMs &WEMs). These measures are designed to strategically upgrade legacy systems and optimize current operations. If implemented,  these efficiency measures will deliver significant reductions in annual operating costs and utility consumption.

These findings reaffirm the Pullman Lubumbashi Grand Karavia's dedication to blending its rich history with modern, sustainable best practices, solidifying its place as a leader in African hospitality.
